Friends paid you back on TWINT? Count only your share

You pay CHF 186 for dinner, two friends send CHF 62 each on TWINT, and your budget shows CHF 186 spent and CHF 124 earned. Here's how to see the CHF 62 you really spent.

You pay CHF 186 for dinner, split three ways, and two friends each send you CHF 62 on TWINT. Your budget now says you spent CHF 186 at a restaurant and earned CHF 124, when you really spent CHF 62.

The answer is to subtract that CHF 124 from the expense. In Spentio, you pick the two TWINT payments, what you spent comes down to CHF 62, and the payments stop counting as income.

The Subtract a transaction screen in Spentio: a CHF 186 dinner expense reduced to CHF 62, with two TWINT payments under it marked Will be deleted

How it works

  1. Open the expense, tap the three dots and choose Subtract a transaction.
  2. Under Money you received, pick the money you got back. Likely matches come first.
  3. Watch the amount fall with each one.
  4. Confirm. The payments you picked are deleted and the expense keeps the lower amount.

The step-by-step guide shows every tap.

What you see afterwards

Your transactions show CHF 62 for the dinner, and your category totals and budget count CHF 62 too. The two TWINT payments no longer count as income, and the rest of your income stays as it was. The notes on the expense record who paid you back, when and how much.

What you can subtract

Any money you received: TWINT, a bank transfer, Revolut, PayPal or a refund from a shop. It works the same whether you typed it in or imported your bank statement.

Frequently asked questions

How do I stop a TWINT payment from a friend counting as income?
In Spentio, subtract it from the expense it was for. Open the expense, choose Subtract a transaction, pick the TWINT payment and confirm. The payment is deleted, so it no longer counts as income, and the expense drops by that amount.
What if only one friend has paid so far?
Pick that one payment. The expense drops by that amount, and you can subtract the next one later, the same way.
Does this work for a refund from a shop?
Yes. A partial refund lowers the expense to what you ended up paying. If you get it all back, Spentio removes both the expense and the refund, because you spent nothing.
Can I still see who paid me back?
Yes. The notes on the expense list each payment you subtracted, with its date, name and amount.
